Březová nad Svitavou lies on the border between Bohemia and Moravia, and the Svitava River flows through the town. King Vladislav II granted it town status on 1 August 1497.

The Baroque Church of St Bartholomew has origins dating back to the 13th century. Between 1911 and 1913, the first water supply for Brno was built here. The primary school is housed in a building from 1909–1910, erected on the site of the old town hall.
